In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer.

  1. I have always loved this Camus quote. Our toughest life experiences teach us so much about our own resilience and strength. I have been lucky to know some wonderfully inspiring people who, despite the deepest of sorrows in their life, have still managed to embrace joy and hope. I think that when we are forced to surrender to those moments of winter in our own lives – really opening ourselves to those lessons – we activate something deep inside us that, if we let it, will lead us to that ‘invincible summer’ within. It can also be triggered by the kindnesses of others; the unexpected discovery of beauty in the harshest of places or situations, or maybe just one simple moment of exchange that might transform the way we perceive things and ourselves. I believe that this ‘invincible summer’ is always there; if we cannot feel it at any time, it waits for us to rediscover it. It has endless patience with our stumbling and our pain. We are ultimately all survivors. I think humans are quite extraordinary for having to deal with the awful losses and struggles of life, when we can never know the meaning or purpose of our living and dying. It takes courage and trust to do both and despite it all, joy and wonder will still find us. None of us are ever truly lost for ever.

  3. Invincible was a word given to me tonight to describe ”’me.” Even though I knew what it meant I went to dictionary.com and discovered that it was actually me. Then I went to google to learn about invincible people…consequently this blog…
I am on a journey that requires tenacity(sp) and strength…I have been up and down abased and abound but I stood. Thanks for sharing.
