Black Elk

Poems from the Stroud Valleys

March 5th, 2008

Jay Ramsay, author of The Crucible of Love, and an old friend from way back when he and I were training at the Institute of Psychosynthesis, has sent me his latest collection of poems: ‘Local Universe: Poems written in the Stroud Valleys’.

As always, Jay’s poems are evocative of the heights and depths. Here is one of my favourites from his collection:

Hawthorn, Blackthorn

after Frances Horovitz

Bunched starlight blossoming in the hardest of thorns,

The hardest of branches –

Where there is no consolation

As if squeezed out of the wood out of the sap of sorrow:

These bright white explosions of tenderness
