The life of Don Carlos is a perpetual struggle against his father, Philip II, King of Spain. To aid a truce between France and Spain, Carlos’ beloved Elisabeth of Valois, is forced to marry his father, the King. The King’s jealousy of the love between his son and Elisabeth is deeply seated. Don Carlos gives his support to the liberation of the Netherlands, against his father and the heinous Grand Inquisition.
