Long Man & Friends: Sacred Sussex with David Bramwell, Philip Carr-Gomm & Henri Brocklebank

Nightingale Rooms above Grand Central, BRIGHTON, BN1 3PA
 Sunday 22nd June 2025 7:30PM
To celebrate the release of their new book with Snake River Press – The Long Man and Friends: Sacred Sussex – David and Philip invite you on a magical pilgrimage of spiritual discovery across Sussex, from the glorious goblin-haunted landscape of Devil’s Dyke, the demonic dragon at Knucker Hole and the magic circle of Chanctonbury Ring to our iconic giant the Long Man (or woman?) of Wilmington. Learn about the lost spring of St Helen’s Wood, Sussex’s oldest yew trees and the Gilded Elm. Learn the difference between the Devil’s Jumps and the Devil’s Humps, and the location of a church with one of the world’s best reproductions of the Sistine Chapel ceiling. David and Philip will also share stories of Sussex’s only female saint, Vera Pragnell’s sanctuary and the Brighton witch with her own blue plaque. They’ll also share nine magical walks that take in hill forts, a yew forest a remote Buddhist monastery,  pagan burial sites, sacred waters, pilgrim trails and occult mysteries.

Joining them for the night is Henri Brocklebank, Head of Conservation at Sussex Wildlife Trust, who’ll explore our county’s sacred natural spaces, including Ebernoe Forest in West Sussex. Signed copies of the book will be for sale! Tickets here.
