Houses I Would Like to Live In

April 29th, 2008

I guess we all have a vision of the ideal house and setting we would like to live in, and every so often one appears which seems to match that vision almost completely. In an earlier post I mentioned the Lammas Project which features some, and now Lindsay Hamilton, author of The Secret of Home, has told me of another one: the PENWHILWR STRAW BALE HOUSE. Here’s a picture! See more on the website of the Quiet Earth Trust

  1. It does look cool. Personally, I hope to live in a ramshackle old house with lots of creaking floor boards one day – ‘adams family envy’ ! Right now, having just become a mum, I am more likely to become a minimalist sometime soon so that there will be nothing for the little critter to grab hold of when he starts moving about by himself in the not too distant future!

  2. this Straw Bale house is on CH4 Grand Designs Live Thurs 8th. May at 9pm – Tune in and vote – This is a very humble house, built mostly by unskilled labour, the majority of whom were women. Many of them came from all over the world.

This is a Light house – not just in weight but also in vision and influence. I want a lot more people to see it and to realise that this sort of thing is possible.

  3. Hi Philip~

I adore straw bale homes and they are definitely on the top my list if I get to the point where I can afford one/have one built here in the damp Pacific Northwest (seattle usa)

Glad to have found your blog. I’m a student of Leon Reed’s here and I believe you are connected to him in some way too? At any rate I heard a lot about the OBOD from him and others in my area.

A total fan of your oracle and tarot decks and Will Worthington’s art, I just wanted to say howdy from afar. And thanks. Many Thanks.

    Brightest blessings
    Cynthia
