Happy New Year!

January 2nd, 2016

Happy New Year to all friends far and wide! There is some stunning wild life photography in this video combined with a stirring rendition of Auld Lang Syne in English and I think Dutch… Just the thing to celebrate the beauty of the natural world and the warmth of friendship! Let’s hope this New Year brings Peace!

  1. Thank You for posting Philip. Very lovely. You are spot on as usual! I will share this, as I share many things you post. This is our Living Earth that we are just a little part of. Without us it would NOT fall apart, but with us, as we currently see fit to exploit, overpopulate, and make wholesale war, it is dying. The beautiful pictures may bring home to some who are locked in the egocentrism of our species, the equal, aware sentiences and spirit of all our nonhuman brothers and sisters, how can we murder the other living beings of Earth? How can we murder each other? We all had one common origin. We are all related, we hold in common very similar, often nearly identical, segments of DNA necessary for the continuance of Life on Earth with EVERY living creature, even plants! We share feeling, the trials of survival, love for our families, coping with the demands of life on Earth. We human animals are so powerful and so numerous. Peace on Earth, and greater awareness of our intertwined kinship would benefit everyone. I think as long as we are here as the most powerful species, cultivation of this awareness will be necessary if Earthly life is to continue, and it is absolutely a necessary condition for human life to continue. Happy New Year.:-)

  2. Thank you for sharing this Philip – it was beautiful! I have to say though that I am disappointed in your opening comments. I’ve always believed that the Druid path was one of acceptance, openness and not judging others’ beliefs. I still believe this and will continue to live my life accepting that I have my own beliefs and others have theirs and I have no right to say they are wrong. I was pretty shocked, reading your words, because they were not the words that I learned from you, both personally and in your books. What gives?

    • Ah Sue – a misunderstanding – by doggerel I meant its definition as ‘verse or words that are badly written or expressed.’ I wasn’t referring to the content/meaning of the ideas expressed just to the quality of the writing – that’s very subjective I know and rather snooty of me! The sentiments I agree whole-heartedly with! 🙂
I’ll change it because I guess others will misunderstand too. And since another definition of doggerel is ‘comic verse composed in irregular rhythm’ that is not what I meant!

  3. Happy New Year to you and yours, as well!

The lyrics are in a Scandinavian language, I’m reasonably sure, but not Icelandic (which I mention because I have completed a basic course in that). Google Translate says Swedish for the following words, which I am able to hear while listening to the video:

Tag här min hand, du trogna vän
    Gemenskapen är vår
Den lever nu, den lever än
    I många långa år

My husband and I participated in a gorgeous New Year’s Day group hike on a local prairie that we’re helping to restore here in the central U.S. We were fortunate to receive a few inches of snow at Christmas, and the river was full of slush. The waters were singing to us with an absolutely mesmerizing swoosh-shoosh sound as they rushed by.

The world truly is full of beautiful song, isn’t it? 🙂

  4. There were three things I appreciated about this offering.

I loved her clear strong singing voice and the emotion tied to it.
I loved the animals and their beauty and gift of being they offer.
I felt the saying was, as me mum used to say, ” food for thought”.

“The New Year lies before you like a spotless tract of snow.
Be careful how you tread on it, for every mark will show.”

Thanks Much for posting and Happy New Year!

  5. Light and Love, Joy and Peace! Happy New Year, dear Philip – for you, your family and friends, for all!
Let the snow doesn`t hide the paths between people – but only makes them white and clear! 🙂
