The One Tree Gathering is a project initiated by the ICCS (International Center for Cultural Studies) and OBOD (The Order of Bards Ovates & Druids) to explore values shared by Pagan and Dharmic cultures. The aim of the annual gatherings is to provide a platform for our communities to exchange ideas and form relationships based on friendship, mutual understanding and shared values.

This year the One Tree Gathering is on 17th-18th of August at the beautiful Beaumanor Hall, near Loughborough. During the weekend we will have an opportunity to meet like minded people and take part in inspiring talks, discussions and interactive workshops. Details.

Philip Carr-Gomm, author of A Brief History of Nakedness, takes us through a magic lantern show to explore the topic of the naked human body, which evokes powerful and often contradictory feelings and ideas: it can thrill or revolt us; it can signal innocence or sexual availability, honesty or madness, oneness with nature or separation from society. Advertisers and the media are aware of the complex and ambivalent associations that most of us have towards the subject, and use images of bare skin or simply the word ‘naked’ to compete for our attention, while mystics have used nudity to get closer to God, and political protesters have discovered that simply baring all represents one of the most effective ways to gain publicity for their cause. Feeling at Home in Ourselves and in the World: a Day with Philip Carr-Gomm

Life can sometimes feel like an uphill struggle – relationships can be hard, just staying healthy and solvent can seem impossible at times, and the wider world seems so beset with difficulties. How can we lead a reasonably happy, peaceful and meaningful life in the world today? In the morning Philip will share his thoughts on these questions with us through his experience of the nature spirituality of Druidry. There’ll be time for meditation and discussion, and then after lunch he will share with us a method he has learned, known as sophrology, which can also help us with the goals of leading a contented and fulfilled life. We will be able to try out sophrology exercises that can alleviate the symptoms of stress and anxiety, and can help us sleep more deeply and think more clearly. Details.

The Mystic Garden and the Sanctuary of the Heart – An Autumn Retreat with Philip Carr-Gomm at the Fintry Retreat House, home to the Fintry Trust, set in beautiful countryside in the Surrey Hills with woodland walks and extensive views across the landscape. The atmosphere of the house and grounds is perfectly suited to this contemplative retreat, with time for poetry and conversation about the spiritual life, and time for individual reflection, interspersed with healing and restorative meditations and exercises drawn from sophrology and Yoga Nidra. 19 Oct

Sophrology & Mindfulness – Is sophrology a more effective modality than mindfulness, and if so in what ways? A talk for the International Sophrology Federation in London. Buy tickets here.

3 Nov

Finding Peace, Energy and Joy with Sophrology – a workshop for the Mind Body Spirit Festival Birmingham. 1100-1300 hrs.

Do you want to feel better, have more energy, free yourself from stress and anxiety – and lead a fuller, more creative life? Sophrology can help you achieve all these goals by combining movement, breathing and visualization in unusual ways to create simple and quick exercises that calm and energize you. It’s France’s best kept secret – thousands of people have been using sophrology there for decades – and now it’s reached the UK. Created by a neuro-psychiatrist and developed by doctors and psychologists, it only takes ten minutes practice a day. Join us on this workshop led by Philip & Sophia Carr-Gomm, and Adam Harley. Together we’ll take you through an energising and relaxing experience that will give you a whole set of tools to help you de-stress, free yourself from worry, sleep more deeply and think more clearly. Details.

7 - 7 Dec

A conversation between Philip Carr-Gomm and Eimear Burke for the OBOD Winter Gathering, Glastonbury.
