A Doorway into Thanks

Here is a short film of the poem ‘Praying’ by Mary Oliver. As a writer, this poem speaks to me as I reach to find that ‘doorway into thanks’. It also says much about  the importance of being present in the moment. When we focus our awareness – when we truly see – we can become witness to a world that magically expands in beauty and meaning before our very eyes. Praying

It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
